Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley in conversation with Dr. Bo Ruberg

In this event, Danielle and Bo will talk through Queer gaming practices via Bo’s research on queer game studies, how LGBTQI+ game makers are reimagining the medium of video games, and the future and politics of these games for artists and gamers alike.

This event is part of the exhibition She Keeps Me Damn Alive at arebyte Gallery until 5 March 2022.

Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley is an artist living and working in London. She creates work that seeks to archive the Black trans experience. She uses technology to imagine our lives in environments that centre our bodies… those living, those that have passed and those that have been forgotten.

Dr. Bo Ruberg (they/them) is an associate professor in the Department of Film and Media Studies and an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine where they co-run the CATS (Critical Approaches to Technology and the Social) research lab. From 2021 to 2026 they will serve as the co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, the premier peer-reviewed journal for the field of media studies.
