Immersion: Parra River Patch

2020

A statement by the artist

“Stylised as a video game, Immersion is a performance and video work that follows the artist and his avatar swimming in the contaminated Parramatta River. Immersion considers, from a settler’s foreign perspective, the agency of the river akin to Aotearoa’s Whanganui River (NZ) and the Ganges. Immersion was made on the lands, skies and waters of the Burramattagal people of the Dharug nation. Sovereignty was never ceded.”
