Hélène Hulak et Guillaume Seyller
normale tropicale
Hélène Hulak et Guillaume Seyller is an artists duo working with painting and Virtual Reality. They share a commun research around the questions of the body and its representations as long as a certain taste for darkness. Their collaboration produce a strange cosmology, populated with flashy monsters traveling from drawings to paintings, passing by VR installations and 3D scenes.

Alain
Hi ! As I was saying in my last email, I’d like to engage in an unformal conversation around your collaboration and the French Hair project. So if you let me play the question / answer game, I’d like to start with a very commun but none the less important question. Both of you have a practice engaged in a singular way, yet your collaboration seems to reveal an identity of its own, which is the sign of a successful encounter. Could you get back to the origins of this encounter, to the elements which led you to engage in a commun work ?
Guillaume
Hey ! Well, we know each other for a few years now, and I think what gathered us was the wish to work together and spend some time on a commun project. Moreover, our concerns meet at several points. We essentially work from the body, of its image or perception. We have a a common lure for darkness, and we can stand Lana Del Rey which has been a key factor in the success of the project !
Hélène
Hi Alain ! My turn to try to answer. So yes, to begin I think there was a desire to work together without thinking of the form this collaboration would take. On my side there was also a desire to get out of the loneliness of producing alone. I think what was in stake for both of us all along the project, was to get out of our own creative habits and still find ourselves in its final form.
