Labor Studies is an analysis and reflection on the ways my family, and consequently me, have had our bodies exploited within a system that values labor but discards the being. The numbing and often deadly repetition of constant daily labor within unsafe and pathetically low wage workplaces is the reality of most immigrants around the world. The emphasis on productivity and profit at the cost of wellbeing and human dignity seeps into every crevice of life.
María Fernanda was born in San Juan, PR and currently resides in Chicago. She is a new media and fibers artist working primarily in experimental 3D, art game design, and fabric construction and manipulation.
