Expanding from the Mexican myth of the 5 Suns, Sixth Sun makes connection between animal intelligence and technological advancement.
Featuring two translations ( commissioned by the US and Mexican government) of Cuauhtemoc’s, (final ruler of the Aztec empire) last address to his people before his assassination by the Spanish state, Sixth Sun looks at how geoengineering can hold animal life.
This video deals with systems of translation, the appropriated opening text aims to preserve an indigenous voice within the canon of settler colonialism, the language of the Aztec people, Nahuatl, is effectively erased.
