A statement by the artist

‘existential circus’ portrays a fictional protagonist. Videos showing their life act as an instrument played by the performer. Input videos alternate between fragments of crises we face and the positive-feeling live drawing from the other performer. Through this process, the two performers have a “conversation”. This conversation does not resolve, just like the real-life conversations on crises. Instead, it oscillates between hope and hopelessness.

Jae Kong is a multidisciplinary artist. They pursue to create artworks that can be time machines to possible dystopian futures – showing how the world is, and how the world could be worse if we stay on the same track without any meaningful change.
